The UOW SMART Infrastructure Facility, directed by Senior Professor Pascal Perez, is a leading hub for research and innovation in smart technologies and infrastructure. The facility actively engages in collaborations to explore the potential of emerging technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and data visualization.
For this project, Devika’s expertise lies in developing innovative solutions, and they contributed significantly to the project by creating a 3D model of the SMART Infrastructure Facility. This model allowed real-time data visualization and interaction within a virtual reality (VR) environment.

The collaborative effort resulted in the successful integration of smart sensors, developed by Nube iO, into Devika’s 3D model. These sensors, distributed throughout the SMART building, collected real-time data on temperature, humidity, light, and motion. Devika’s contribution involved the development of an API that facilitated the mapping of sensor data onto the 3D model, enabling users to visualize and interact with the building in VR.
Devika’s Managing Director, Ken Kencevski, expressed the transformative impact of the project. The application not only provided real-time visualization but also allowed retrospective analysis, enabling comparisons of building management options and identification of opportunities for increased efficiency. The integration of weather apps further enhanced the potential to ensure occupant comfort while minimizing energy waste in unoccupied spaces.
Senior Professor Pascal Perez recognized the collaborative effort as a significant step toward creating a truly smart building.
