Importance of Equality and Diversity in Technology

Equality and diversity in technology should be discussed more often in the community. Everyone should have access to the same educational opportunities and experiences and be able to enter a workplace they are passionate about.

Regardless of gender.

This includes the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We believe that the acceptance of diversity will lead to innovation and growth for businesses and the community.

The Trajectory of Careers in STEM

75% of the fastest-growing jobs require STEM skills. This means that students need to learn and participate in educational activities that are helping them to develop these skills. In particular, we need to be providing more opportunities for women to enter this space as 28% of the currently employed, STEM-qualified Australian workforce are female. 14% of females work in engineering and 25% are in the information and communications technology (ICT) careers.

According to various technology companies’ diversity reports, the total percentage of female employees is between 26% to 43%. These numbers are even lower in development roles. We believe that for our industry to thrive, we need the skills of every passionate individual, male or female.

To close this gender gap, we are dedicating resources and support to educational initiatives to increase participation in STEM-based fields. Our learning opportunities primarily include workshops and work experience.

Devika Collaborates with UOW for STEM Camp for Girls

We are proud to partner with the University of Wollongong (UOW) to equip women with technological skills. Providing opportunities for women in STEM is high on UOW’s agenda and are actioning change through initiatives like the STEM Camp for Girls. This camp provides participants with hands-on lessons and industry experience in areas such as sustainability, renewable energies, and humanitarian aid biomedicine.

With UOW, we have been able to offer more women the opportunity to learn about technology and software. These experiences are equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue a STEM-based career.

Through further collaborations with UOW, we are looking forward to providing more learning opportunities for women across the Illawarra.
